ST. LOUIS -- The Missouri State Bears will open conference play on New Year's Eve and play host to five league opponents during the month of January as part of MSU's 18-game Missouri Valley Conference slate released by the league on Thursday (Sept. 3).

Coach Paul Lusk begins his fourth season at the helm of Missouri State with four starters returning from a 20-win campaign that saw the Bears advance to postseason play for the third time in five seasons.

Lusk's squad opens Valley play in Carbondale on Dec. 31 against rival Southern Illinois, and then hosts Drake on Jan. 3 in its first MVC home contest of the new season.

Including the Drake game, the Bears will host five games during the month of January with Illinois State (Jan. 11), Evansville (Jan. 14), Wichita State (Jan. 21) and Southern Illinois (Jan. 31) on the slate.

February begins with a home matchup against second-year league member Loyola on Feb. 4, prior to the Bears' second and final two-game conference road swing at Wichita State (Feb. 7) and Evansville (Feb. 10). MSU plays three of its next four conference games at JQH Arena before closing out the regular season at Loyola on Feb. 28.

The Missouri Valley Conference Tournament returns to Scottrade Center in St. Louis, March 5-8.

In all, the Bears will play two Saturday home conference games, two on Sunday and five on Wednesday between January and February.

MSU previously released a 12-game non-conference schedule that includes the team's first-ever trip to the Great Alaska Shootout, Nov. 26-29, and five non-conference home dates.
