St. LOUIS
-- The Missouri Valley Conference has finalized its 2014-15 women's basketball schedule, it was announced Thursday (Sept. 4), completing Missouri State's slate for the upcoming season.
In head coach Kellie Harper's second season, Missouri State will play a total of 12 games against nine teams that participated in a postseason tournament in 2013-14, with 16 of the team's 29 scheduled contests against clubs that posted a winning record last year.
The Lady Bears open league play Jan. 2 against Evansville and play five games at JQH Arena in the month of January, including Indiana State (Jan. 4), Wichita State (Jan. 9), Southern Illinois (Jan. 23) and Illinois State (Jan. 25). MSU welcomes Bradley (Feb. 13), Loyola (Feb. 15) and UNI (Feb. 27) to Springfield the next month, and hosts Drake on March 1 to close the home slate.
The MVC road schedule features trips to Loyola (Jan. 16), Bradley (Jan. 18), Drake (Jan. 30), UNI (Feb. 1), Wichita State (Feb. 8), Southern Illinois (Feb. 20), Illinois State (Feb. 22), Indiana State (March 5) and Evansville (March 7). The MVC Tournament is set for March 12-15 at The Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo.
"I am excited to coach this team and watch their progress throughout the year," Harper said. "Our schedule is quite challenging this upcoming season. We will have to be mentally and physically tough throughout the road stretch during the month of November. The quality of competition on our non-conference schedule should help prepare our players for the rigors of Missouri Valley play."
The Lady Bears open the 2014-15 campaign at Memphis on Nov. 14 and play their first six games of the season away from home. MSU makes its home debut Dec. 6 against SIU Edwardsville to kick off a four-game homestand against Arkansas (Dec. 10), IUPUI (Dec. 14) and Arkansas State (Dec. 19).
The remainder of the pre-MVC road schedule includes visits to UALR (Nov. 18), Oklahoma State (Nov. 22), Oral Roberts (Nov. 24), and games against Colorado (Nov. 28) and either TCU or Colorado State (Nov. 29) in Boulder, Colo. The Lady Bears and Missouri face off in the Sprint Center in Kansas City on Dec. 30 at 4 p.m.
Missouri State's exhibition schedule includes home games against Central Methodist (Nov. 4) and Southwest Baptist (Nov. 9).
