The Missouri State Lady Bears (0-4, 0-0 MVC) head to the Rocky Mountains this week for a pair of games at the Omni Classic in Boulder, Colo.
Missouri State begins tournament play on Friday at 8:30 p.m. (Central) against the host Buffaloes (3-1), and then plays either TCU (3-1) or Colorado State (2-1) at 6 or 8:30 p.m. Saturday based on Friday's results.
The Coors Events Center in Boulder has a special place in Lady Bear history, as Missouri State defeated UCLA and Ole Miss there in 1992 to advance to its first Final Four. MSU also played NCAA Tournament games there in 1995, beating Utah and losing to Colorado to give the Lady Bears a 3-1 record in the building.
After this weekend, the Lady Bears make their long-awaited home debut against SIUE on Dec. 6.
Missouri State is 0-2 all-time against Colorado, losing a regular-season game in 1979 and in the second round of the 1995 NCAA Tournament.
MSU is 0-1 against Colorado State, with that loss coming at CSU in the second round of the 1999 NCAA Tournament.
Missouri State and TCU have split their two previous meetings. MSU won 76-56 in Springfield in 1999, and TCU won 77-44 in Fort Worth in 2001.
Colorado is 3-1 on the season with wins over North Dakota, Arkansas State and Denver, and an overtime loss to Western Kentucky. Four Buffs average in double figures, led by Jen Reese with 16.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. As a team, CU averages 75.8 points and allows 64 while shooting 45.6 percent overall, 44 percent on 3-pointers and 75.3 percent from the foul line. In four games, CU's opponents have shot 9-for-76 from beyond the arc.
Scouting Colorado State
Colorado State is 2-1 with a loss to Hawaii and wins against Colorado School of Mines and Illinois State. The Rams have seven players averaging at least 8.0 points, and score 75.7 points per game while limiting opponents to 52.3. CSU shoots 42.2 percent and holds opponents to 33.3 percent from the floor, and shoots .394 from the 3-point line and .589 on free throws.
TCU is 3-1 with wins against Houston Baptist, SMU and Texas Southern, and a nine-point loss at Georgia. Zahna Medley scores 17.3 points per game to lead a balanced offensive attack that averages 70.5 points. The Horned Frogs allow 60.2 points per game and shoot 36.9 percent overall, 27.6 percent on 3-pointers and 75.7 percent from the charity stripe.
