Postgame Quotes vs. Northern Iowa

Nov. 22, 2014

Recap | Final Stats

Head Coach Terry Allen
Opening statement …
"The touchdown at the end of the first half was obviously a tough one for us to overcome, but I thought we competed the whole day and definitely had our chances in the fourth quarter."

On the running game …
"We would have tried to throw it all over the place had we been able to protect our quarterback a little bit more. I thought our offensive line played hard. We had some designated quarterback draws in there that Kierra [Harris] got out on and really had them rocked back on their heels a little bit. But David Johnson is an outstanding back, and they just kept pounding it at us and it led to our demise."

On the Northern Iowa fumble in the first half …
"That would have been big, Andrew Beisel got it. And it's funny because of life's little stories, and we might as well share them now. Pete Schiavone is the official on that sideline that made that call. He's been here forever. He's from St. Louis. His wife was Andrew's first-grade teacher. And he always talks to Andrew and Andrew said 'Pete, I got the fumble,' and so it's funny how those things work out. And then, I swear when they reviewed the run along the sideline in the second half, that they were going to bring it back because the video board shows the guy stepping out of bounds. And then they announced on the field that it would stand as called, so I guess they had a little different view than we did."

On being in the game down the stretch …
"I think that we needed to catch a break - we needed to make some more plays - and then they got that last touchdown. But, all in all, they had everything to play for and we didn't really have much to play for, and our kids played for their assistant coaches and for our seniors and with that, I take a lot of pride."
