Marshall Bio | Valley Release | Tickets for Avila Game
ST. LOUIS - Missouri State guard Marcus Marshall (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) has been named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for his exemplary performance in the Bears' season opener against Eastern Illinois last Friday.
Marshall scored a career-high 38 points against the Panthers -- the most points by Missouri State player since 1979 and the most-ever by a Bear in a season opener. He was 12-for-16 from the field, 6-of-7 from 3-point range and made a perfect 8-for-8 at the foul line. His scoring efforts matched the seventh-best single-game scoring total in program history and were the most points ever by a Bear in the month of November.
It was Marshall's first game back since missing 21 games last year, culminating in season-ending knee surgery in January.
He is Missouri State's first MVC Player of the Week since Jarmar Gulley won the honor on Jan. 13, 2014.
Evansville's Mislav Brzoja, is this week's MVC Newcomer of the Week. He is a sophomore transfer from Villanova.
The Bears will wrap a two-game home stand to start the 2014-15 campaign this Wednesday when they host Avila University, coached by former MSU standout Rodney Perry. The Avila game will tip at 7:05 p.m., with tickets available now at MissouriStateBears.com/tickets or at the Missouri State athletics box office in JQH Arena, (417) 836-7678, during regular box office hours.
