MSU Women's Golf Finishes Fifth at Blue Raider Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Freshman Stine Pettersen matched her second-round 73 with another in the final round, leading the Missouri State women's golf team to fifth place at the Blue Raider Invitational at Old Fort Golf Club on Tuesday.

Pettersen finished tied for 12th overall at 8-over 224 for the Bears, who shot 46-over 910 on the par-72, 6,389-yard course. She led the tournament field with 42 pars for the week.

Classmate Verena Gimmy posted a 5-over-par 77 to for a 20th-place tie at 10-over 226 for the tournament.

Senior Megan Thompson, who was second to Pettersen in total pars with 41, shot a closing 80. Thompson finished tied for 26th at 13-over 229.

Sophomore Caroline Boone and junior Megan Furnish each also carded final-round 80s. Boone tied for 32nd at 15-over 231, while Furnish shot 26-over 242 to tie for 63rd place.

"Obviously, not what we're looking for today, but it was the first what I would call poor round we've had since Nebraska to start the season," said Missouri State head coach Kevin Kane. "Overall, I'm really pleased with the last month or so of the season."

Host Middle Tennessee claimed the team title at 9-over-par 873 with MTSU's Emily Miller winning a playoff against teammate Avery George after sinking a 30-footer for the victory on the par-4 15th hole. Both posted 1-over-par 217 for the tournament.

Oral Roberts (31-over 895) finished second, followed by UALR (32-over 896) and Tennessee Tech (42-over 906).

The Bears' spring season begins Feb. 15-16 at the Jim West Challenge in New Braunfels, Texas.
