SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State men's soccer team (10-4-2) will face SIU Edwardsville (8-8-2) in the second round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon.
The Bears, who earned a first round bye after winning the regular season conference title, will have a rematch against SIUE who defeated the Bears in double overtime this past weekend.
The Bears suffered the lone loss of the conference season to the Cougars on Jabari Danzy's 107th minute decisive goal. This was the only goal conceded to an MVC opponent all season.
That game, fresh on the minds of the Missouri State players and coaches, featured strong defenses from both teams. The conference tournament game should see a similar style of play.
SIUE advanced to the second round of the tournament by defeating Loyola in the four versus five quarterfinals matchup earlier today. The Cougars blanked the Ramblers 2-1 behind goals by Christian Volesky and Danzy. Loyola's Brian Bement scored for Loyola.
The advantage for the Bears entering this game will be the additional rest. Missouri State will have not played since Saturday, whereas SIUE will have less than two days' rest.
The Bears will travel up to the MVC tournament Thursday morning and will arrive in Peoria by late afternoon.
The semifinal game between Missouri State and SIUE is scheduled for Friday at 3:06 and can be seen through the conference's streaming site, linked above.
