        All-MVC Women's Basketball Teams

St. LOUIS -- Casey Garrison is the sixth player in Missouri Valley Conference history to earn first-team all-league honors four times and is joined by Christiana Shorter, who made second-team all-MVC and the league's all-defensive squad, as Missouri State representatives on all-MVC women's basketball teams, the league announced Wednesday.

The MVC's No. 3 all-time scorer, Garrison leads the Lady Bears with a 16.3 scoring average to go with 5.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game. She closed the regular season shooting 47 percent overall, 42 percent from three-point land and 85 percent from the free throw line.

The 2010 Jackie Stiles MVC Player of the Year, Garrison ranks in MSU's career top 10 in 15 categories, and is the only player to rank in points (2nd - 2,225), rebounds (7th - 772) and assists (3rd - 517). The Bolivar, Mo., native also ranks in the top 13 in MVC history in six categories, and her 116 career games scoring in double figures sits 13th in NCAA history.

Earning all-conference honors for a third time following second-team recognition last year and honorable mention as a freshman in 2010, Shorter adds another second-team nod and all-defensive honors to her resume this year. The junior from Tulsa averages 12.5 points and 6.8 rebounds this season with a team-high 68 steals and a .500 field goal percentage.

Shorter ranks fourth in school history in double-doubles (21), fifth in blocks (78), ninth in rebounds (696), 15th in steals (162) and 17 in scoring (1,163). She collected multiple steals in seven straight games midway through the league season, including four or more in four consecutive contests with a high of seven on Jan. 27 vs. Indiana State.

Missouri State (21-7, 14-4 MVC) opens play at the State Farm MVC Tournament Friday at 12:05 p.m. The top-seeded Lady Bears play the winner of Thursday's contest between No. 8 Bradley and No. 9 Southern Illinois.
