The Missouri State Lady Bears (0-0, 0-0 MVC) kick off their 44th season of varsity competition Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. inside JQH Arena when they host the school they played their final game of the 2011-12 season against, the 23rd-ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early Tuesday to witness the Lady Bears receive their 2011-12 Missouri Valley Conference championship rings and the see the banner unveiled in a pregame ceremony.
The Lady Bears enter the season with a 22-21 record in season openers, winning their last two after halting a six-game opening-day losing streak with an 83-60 victory over Lamar in 2010.
The Lady Bears have a busy first 10 days of the season as they head to Arkansas-Little Rock Nov. 15 for a 7 p.m. contest with the Trojans before traveling to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for the Hardwood Tournament of Hope Nov. 20-22.
Series History
Oklahoma State leads the all-time series 6-3, with Missouri State holding a 2-1 lead in Springfield. Prior to a pair of OSU wins last season, the teams last met in 2000 with the Lady Bears claiming a 78-44 victory in Springfield during their most recent Final Four season.
Scouting Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State entered the season ranked 23rd in AP poll and 24th by the coaches after going 22-12 a season ago and winning the WNIT championship. The Cowgirls return four starters from that team, including point guard Tiffany Bias, who averaged 13.1 points and 6.7 assists a season ago, and 2012 Big 12 Freshman of the Year Liz Donohoe, who scored 13.1 points and grabbed eight rebounds a game last year.
The Cowgirls open their 2012-13 campaign at home against Cal Poly on Nov. 9, and defeated Central Oklahoma 118-43 in their lone exhibition contest.
