ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Missouri State senior goalkeeper Chelsea Voet has been named this week's Missouri Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning. She picked up her league-leading seventh shutout in a 1-0 blanking of Creighton on Sunday.
"Chelsea (Voet) has done a great job of stepping into the starting role this season," said head coach Rob Brewer. "Since her freshman season, she has come in and worked hard every day and continues to get better. It was a nice for her to pick up a win on Sunday against a conference team from her home town."
Voet made five saves to earn her third 1-0 win of the year. In the process, Voet continues her dominance at home as she has not allowed a goal in more than 587 minutes at Plaster Field. For the season, she has given up just one goal at home in 760 minutes of action.
With the Bears' win on Sunday, MSU is tied for second in the league with seven points, trailing Drake by three points. There are just two regular season matches remaining and the top-two seeds receive an automatic bye into the semifinal round of the MVC Women's Soccer Championship.
The Bears hit the road for the final away match of the regular season at Illinois State on Oct. 21. MSU will return to Plaster Field on Oct. 25 for Senior Night and the regular season finale. Fans can purchase tickets at the gate on game day and, as always, students are free with ID. The women's soccer team will once again attempt to break the attendance record at the final home match and if 1,000 fans attend, the team will give away an iPad.
