Carbondale, Ill. -
The track and field Bears will head to Carbondale, Ill. Saturday (Jan. 14) to compete in the Salukis Open. Missouri State will use this meet as a building block to prime the Bears for future competitions.
"This meet is going to be really good because we will run very select events," said director of track and field and cross country Ron Boyce, "Going into this one, we really look to brush up and fine tune a couple of things."
Freshman Althia Maximilien is coming off a strong performance at the Arkansas Invitational. The Bridgetown, Barbados native finished first in the 600-meter run in her second debut as a Bear.
"Althia is on fire", said Boyce, "We look for her to continue to develop."
Other Missouri State sprinters to watch for are Pernell Joseph and Shantel Llewellyn. Both athletes are coming off personal bests in the 200-meter dash, while Joseph also ran a personal best in the 60-meter dash.
The Bears distance runners will return to action. Terry Phillips and Emily Beaver will look to make an immediate impact for the Missouri State distance group.
"As small as this meet might be, it's going to be very important for us", said Boyce.
Events will begin at 10:30 a.m. CT on Saturday (Jan. 14). Results will be made available on MissouriStateBears.com following the completion of the meet.
