The Missouri State women's soccer team (4-3-1) used two first half goals to get a 2-0 win over visiting Oral Roberts (2-5-1) at Cooper Soccer Plex on Sunday afternoon.
"I feel good about being above .500 after the recent stretch of matches," said head coach Rob Brewer after the victory. "Our defense is gelling and has been playing really well."
Missouri State took the lead in the 36th minute when Kelsey Fouch picked up a loose ball near midfield. She dribbled up the right side to the top of the box and unleashed a bending shot that struck the left post. Sophomore Shelby Stewart jumped on the rebound and put it in the back of the net. It was Stewart's second goal of the year.
The Bears doubled the lead in the 44th minute. Junior Kelly Caldwell scooped up a loose ball and moved up the right side of the field. As she neared the box, she hit senior Logan Bisbee in stride past the ORU defense. Bisbee went one-on-one with the keeper, deking her and chipping the ball past her for the goal.
Missouri State outshot the Golden Eagles, 21-7. Fouch and Katelyn Frederickson each tallied three shots to lead the team. Stewart, Nia Williams, Adrianne Kalogerou and Michelle Sommer added two shots each.
Senior goalkeeper Jessica Teahan started the match and made four saves to continue her shutout streak. Junior Chelsea Voet entered the match in the 65th minute and made one save to preserve the shutout.
The Bears will wrap up the three-game home stand on Friday (Sept. 16) night. MSU will face UMKC at Plaster Field at 7:00 p.m.
