Mt. Pleasant, Mich. -
The field hockey Bears(3-8) found themselves with a second loss to the Chippewas(5-5), as Missouri State fell to Central Michign 5-1 in today, Oct. 2. The Bears are now 0-4 in conference play.
The Bears came out with a chip on their shoulder from their previous loss to Central Michigan (Oct. 1). Both teams battled scoreless the first thirty-minutes of play. Central Michigan would be the first on the board with just a couple of minutes to play in the first half. The Chippewas would score off a penalty stroke going into halftime 1-0 over the Bears.
Central Michigan would then come out firing in the second half, scoring two more goals before the Bears would answer back. Missouri State would finally respond as Sarah Bradley passed to Hillary Lawless to find the back of the net. Unfortunately, that would be the only spark for the Bears of the day, with the Chippewas going on to knock in two more goals. "We came out strong at first but crumbled in the second half", said head coach Gabby Gomez Sosa. The Bears again were unable to put together a full game. The match would finish with Missouri State falling 5-1 in Mt. Pleasant, Mich.
The Bears will continue a tough road stint, taking on Miami (Ohio) this Saturday, Oct. 8 at 12:00 p.m. CT in Oxford, Ohio. Missouri State will then travel to Muncie, Ind. to battle Ball State on Oct. 9 at 12:00 p.m. CT.
