Missouri State begins its 21st season in the Missouri Valley Conference on Wednesday night when the Bears visit defending league champion Northern Iowa for a 7:05 p.m. tipoff, a game which will be televised live on FOX Sports Midwest.
 MSU has won two straight after last Wednesday’s 77-70 victory over visitng Arkansas State at JQH Arena. The Bears shot 47.7 percent from the field in collecting their 15th straight home win, while out-rebounding the Red Wolves by a 33-25 margin, including 21 offensive boards. Missouri State was led by Kyle Weems (Jr., F, Topeka, Kan.) who notched his fourth straight 20-point scoring effort. Weems was 9-for-14 from the field with 24 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals and a pair of three-pointers. MSU also got 12 points apiece from Adam Leonard (Sr., G, Lee’s Summit, Mo.) and Jermaine Mallett (Sr., G, Jackson, Miss.).
 After last season’s memorable run to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, Northern Iowa is off to an 9-3 start and has won five in a row with non-conference wins over Iowa State, TCU, Indiana and New Mexico to its credit. The Panthers have three players averaging double figures in scoring and have won five straight entering the contest. Preseason All-MVC pick Kwadzo Ahelegbe (Sr., G, Oakdale, Minn.) is the go-to man for UNI with 11.2 points per game, 28 assists and 32 free throws.
