Tyler Landgraf, who has been the primary men’s basketball trainer at Georgia Southern since 2005, has accepted the position of assistant athletic trainer at Missouri State, the University announced today. His primary sport responsibility at Missouri State will be men’s basketball.

 

Landgraf is a native of Mason City, Iowa, but has a number of Missouri ties, including a stint as head athletic trainer at Missouri S&T in Rolla from 2002-05.  He also earned a Master’s in athletic administration from Northwest Missouri State in 2002 while working with five different athletic programs during a two-year stint in Maryville.

 

“I am excited for the opportunity to come to Missouri State and work with the men’s basketball program,” said Landgraf. “I look forward to working with Coach (Cuonzo) Martin and his staff, and I like the direction the program is heading.”

 

At Georgia Southern, he was the primary healthcare provider for the men’s basketball and men’s tennis programs, while overseeing graduate assistants in the sports of baseball, softball and men’s soccer.  He also assisted in football coverage and coordinated the school’s NCAA Injury Serveillance System (ISS) duties.

 

Landgraf will replace Ivan Milton as Missouri State’s men’s basketball trainer. Milton retired in March after 33 years as Director of Athletic Training Services. Jim Penkalski was promoted internally to replace Milton as Missouri State's Director of Athletic Training Services, but will continue working primarily with the University’s baseball program.

 

A 2000 graduate of Iowa State, Landgraf is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and has been NATABOC certified since 2000. He and his wife Chelsea are the parents of a daughter, Keira, who is five-months-old.

 

He will begin duties at Missouri State on May 18, and his hiring is contingent upon final approval by the Missouri State Board of Governors at its next meeting.
