ST. LOUIS -- Missouri State women’s basketball player Roxy Stiles has been selected as one of 10 recipients of the Missouri Valley Conference’s Good Neighbor Award, the league announced Friday (Feb. 27). The MVC has partnered with State Farm Insurance in creating the award, which honors model student-athletes who demonstrate good citizenship.
Nine additional student-athletes were named by Commissioner Doug Elgin as the honorees for this winter, including Jenny Van Kirk of Bradley, Kenton Walker of Creighton, Matt Jurysta and Shannon Novosel of Evansville, Kristi Cirone of Illinois State, Kelsey Luna of Indiana State, Abby Girard of UNI, Kelly Dvorak of Southern Illinois and Marcy Sudbeck of Wichita State.
In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition.
A junior from Claflin, Kan., Stiles has been active in the community throughout her three seasons as a Lady Bear. Additionally, she has been named to the Missouri State Dean’s List five times, the MVC Honor Roll on two occasions and was one of 37 Valley student-athletes to receive the Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award in 2007-08.
Stiles, an exercise and movement science major, maintains a 3.93 cumulative grade-point average.
