Three Former Lady Bears to Participate in Benefit Game

Three former Lady Bears will be taking part in "Hoops for Hope", a charity basketball game benefitting the WEPAC Alliance and the Kay Yow Fund, in Ashland, Kan., on Oct. 30. Tahnee Balerio, Ann Cavey-Jameson and Jackie Stiles will represent three of nine celebrity players and coaches who will be paired up with local players for a contest that will be broadcast live in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri by Fox Sports Midwest, beginning at 8:30 p.m. (CT).

A Buhler, Kan., native, Balerio wrapped up her Missouri State career in 2008 as a two-time All-MVC honoree and the No. 14 scorer in school history. She also ranks among the Lady Bears' all-time leaders in free throws made (336), free throw percentage (.812), three-point field goals made (139) and assists (420).

Cavey was a four-year letterwinner at Missouri State from 1999-2002, earning the Lady Bear Prestige Award her senior season. Along with Stiles, the Mechanicsville, Iowa, product played a key role in the Lady Bears march to the 2001 Final Four.

Stiles, who will serve as a celebrity coach, concluded her legendary Missouri State career in 2001 by leading the Lady Bears to their second Final Four appearance. That season saw the Claflin, Kan., product break the NCAA's all-time scoring record en route to picking up All-America honors, the Wade Trophy, Honda Broderick Cup and AP Player of the Year honors.

The WEPAC Alliance is a local foundation that pays for cancer-preventative care for women in five Kansas communities.

Named for the late Kay Yow, former North Carolina State head women's basketball coach who passed away in January after a 22-year struggle with breast cancer, the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund is a 501 c(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.
