Lisa Davies came to Missouri State from Oak Grove, Mo., and started all but two of the 120 basketball games in which she played for the Lady Bears of coach Cheryl Burnett from 1994 to 1998. During the four seasons Davies was at Missouri State, the Lady Bears won two regular season Missouri Valley Conference championships, one conference tourney title and played in the NCAA tournament in 1995, 1996 and 1998. Davies saw her numbers on the court increase each year, as she scored 9.4 points a game as a freshman, 11.6 her sophomore year, 13.2 as a junior and 15.2 when she was a senior. Her rebound numbers showed the same improvement as she became the first player in Lady Bear history to collect 1,000 points, 700 rebounds, 200 steals and 200 assists. Her final totals showed 1,469 points (a four-year average of 12.2), 792 rebounds (average 6.6), 241 steals and 221 assists. A three-time team captain, she helped the Lady Bears to an 87-33 record over four years. She was an MVC all-conference first team selection as both a junior and senior and was the league’s Defensive Player of the Year her senior season. And, as productive as she was on the floor, Davies was equally successful in the classroom. She was voted to the Valley scholar-athlete team her last three years, with two of those unanimous selections. She became only the fifth MVC student-athlete at the Division I level to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America first team selection (1998) . She was also named the nation’s top women’s basketball scholar-athlete with her 1998 selection as the CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year. Davies graduated in 1998 with a degree in communication sciences and disorders and a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
