WALTON HARMON
Football, 1931-34
Inducted February 18, 1989

Walton Harmon was a football standout for SMSU in the early 1930’s, playing his first three seasons for the bears of Coach A.W. Briggs.  Harmon lettered for the Bears in 1931, 1932, and 1933 under Briggs, and was elected a Bruin co-captain for the 1934 season when Coach A.J. McDonald took over the coaching chores.  Harmon, however, suffered a leg injury which forced him to miss his final season of competition.  The standout two-way tackle, a native of Walnut Grove, was on ballclubs which just missed MIAA championships his first two seasons and settled for second place in the conference both years.  Harmon was a starter as both a sophomore and junior for the Bears and was a key ingredient in the grid success enjoyed by Coach Biggs’ final three teams as Briggs became the all time winningest football coach in school history.
