Another athlete from the successful early 1920’s era was Jim “Snub” Althouse, a football and track standout from 1919 to 1922. The Pueblo, CO native also played a year of tennis for SMS. He was on the Bears’ unbeaten team in 1922 and was the Bears’ fullback and kicker. A fine athlete, he was also tremendously successful academically. He served a year as the student body president, was a Phi Beta Kappa scholar and demonstrated considerable ability as a science writer.
