JACK RUSSELL
Football and Basketball, 1936-39
Inducted September 27, 1980

Jack Russell was a two-year letterman as a football tackle for SMS in 1936 and 1937 and the Chilhowee native collected three SMS basketball letters from 1937 to 1939 as the Bears’ center.  He played for Coach Andy McDonald in both sports.  Russell played for three straight winning teams for the basketball Bears, including a 15-4 club his senior year.  The Bears were the league runnerup his last two campaigns and Russell was selected to the all-conference team, edging Al Schrick of Central Missouri by two points for the league scoring title in 1939 with a conference record of 118 points.
