HOMER MARTIN
Football, 1946-48
Inducted February 23, 1985

Yet another member of the standout SMS grid squads turned out in the late 1940’s, offensive lineman Homer Martin played for Coach Howard Blair as a sophomore in 1946 and then was a regular at tackle for the two outstanding teams produced in 1947 and 1948 by Coach Tommy O’Boyle.  SMS was 7-2-1 in 1947 and finished second in the MIAA with a 3-1-1 league mark.  The following year the Bears turned in a 9-2 mark which included a trip to the Mo-Kan Bowl Game against Emporia State.  SMS shared the ’48 MIAA title with Northwest Missouri State as each club went 4-1 in the conference.  A native of Ozark and an SMS co-captain as a senior in 1948, Martin’s outstanding blocking earned him all-conference first team recognition from the MIAA in both his junior and senior seasons.
