Monett native Henry May was a letterman for SMS in football in his freshman year of 1947 as the Bruins were 3-1-1 in the conference and 7-2-1 overall.  He spent a year at Monet Junior College and returned in time to letter in 1949 for a 5-4-1 club.  May had a banner season as a senior in 1950 with selection to the MIAA all-conference first team.  He was a co-captain of the 5-4-2 Bears and made the Associated Press all-conference team in addition to being named the outstanding lineman in the conference.
