DICK KERIN
Football, 1942-48
Inducted October 30, 1982

An intergral part of the offensive line effort in the highly-successful SMS grid era of the late 1940’s, Dick Kerin originally came to SMS in 1941 from Mt. Vernon, 0.  He played the 1942 season with the Bears and then left school to enter the Marine Corps.  He came back after the war to play his final three seasons starting in 1946, and was an SMS co-captain in 1948.  Coach Tommy O’Boyle took over the SMS reins in 1947 and led the Bears to a 7-2-1 mark that year and a 9-2 mark the following season that included a share of the MIAA title and a trip to the MO-KAN Bowl where the Bruins were defeated 34-20 by Emporia State.  Kerin was an all-conference first team selection at guard in both in 1947 and 1948, and also played linebacker for SMS.
