CARLOS MAZE
Football and Track, 1931-34
Inducted November 7, 1981
Carlos Maze was a member of the 1932 SMS football team under Coach Briggs and was a Bear fullback on a team which finished as the MIAA runnerup to Northeast Missouri with an overall season record of 3-2-2. His more notable performances, however, came in track, where he was a letter-winner from 1932 through 1934 for Coach Collins and then returned in 1939 for his final season of competition. Maze, a native of Dadeville, threw the discus and javelin for the Bears and also competed in the pole vault. During the years he was on the squad, the Bears won three conference track titles. His return in 1939 led to perhaps his best season as he was a consistent point winner in all of his events. He was high-point man in a dual meet against Rolla that year and scored 10 points in the league outdoor meet with a win in the javelin and third in the discus as the Bears were second in both the indoor and outdoor meets. He went on to qualify that year of the AAU national championship meet.
