Brown on board for Lady Bears

Marisha Brown, a 5-9 guard from Kansas City’s Center High School, has committed to join the Missouri State women’s basketball program for the 2007-08 season. Brown becomes the third player to commit to new Lady Bear head coach Nyla Milleson in the past week, joining Tiffany Coppage and Jacque Griggs as the newest additions to the 2007 recruiting class.

Brown wrapped up a standout prep career by averaging 19.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.5 steals per contest as a senior in 2006-07. A four-year starter for the Yellowjackets, she was a first team all-conference pick in each of her four seasons at CHS, earning first team all-district honors twice and second team all-metro recognition as a senior. She also set the school’s single-game scoring record (43 points) and led Center to a fourth-place Class 4 finish in 2004 as a freshman.

A versatile all-around athlete, Brown also competed in volleyball and track and field for the Yellowjackets, helping Center’s 4x100 meter relay team capture the 2006 Missouri Class 3 state title.

"We think we really got a good one in Marisha in terms of her athleticism and the type of Valley player she can be," Milleson stated. "She’s going to be a lockdown defender and someone we can count on to be able to guard at a number of positions. The sky’s the limit as far as how good she can be."
