All five starters scored in double figures as the Missouri State basketball Bears breezed past St. Gregory’s University 92-46 in the Bears’ second exhibition outing Monday night at Hammons Student Center.
The Bears are now set for their regular season opener Saturday (Nov. 10) at the University of Toledo at 6:00 p.m. (CST). The Bears open their home schedule when they play host to the Price Cutter Classic Nov. 16-17.
Forwards Dale Lamberth with 14 points and Deven Mitchell with 12 set the pace for Missouri State while guards Shane Laurie and Spencer Laurie added 11 each and center Drew Richards had 10.
Forward Patrick Jones led the Cavaliers with 16 points.
Missouri State shot 58 percent from the field the first half in building a 51-16 lead by the intermission and head coach Barry Hinson pulled his first unit from the game fewer than five minutes into the second half.
The Bears shot .521 (37/71) from the field for the game and had a 39-26 rebound advantage. MSU came up with 21 steals and St. Gregory’s, an NAIA school from Shawnee, Okla., had 31 turnovers. Lambert with seven and Mitchell with six led the Bears’ rebounding while Justin Fuehrmeyer had six assists and Chris Cooks had five steals.
