Spencer Laurie MVC Newcomer of the Week

Missouri State University junior guard Spencer Laurie has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Newcomer of the Week for his play in last week’s Bears’ MVC sweep over Bradley and Wichita State.

Laurie, a product of Springfield Kickapoo High, was one of six Bears to average in double figures in scoring in the Bears’ two wins last week. He had a career-high 16 points at Bradley and a career-best eight assists vs. Wichita State. He leads Missouri State in assists for the season with an average of 5.3 a game.

For the week, Laurie hit .563 (9/16) from the field and .571 (4/7) from three-point range and averaged 12.5 points while handing out 11 assists on the week.

UNI’s Grant Stout nosed out MSU’s Tyler Chaney for league Player of the Week honors. Stout averaged 15.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 2.5 steals in two UNI wins last week while Chaney averaged 15.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in the Bears’ two victories.
