The Missouri State Lady Bears’ lone prospect in the 2006-07 recruiting class has made her college choice official, as guard Janette Jackson committed Thursday to join Katie Abrahamson-Henderson’s program for the 2007-08 season.
Jackson was a second-team all-state selection en route to leading Thomas Jefferson High (Denver, Colo.) to a conference championship and berth in the state playoffs as a junior. At 5-foot-8, Jackson played four different positions for the Lady Spartans, posting averages of 16 points, 3.5 assists and 4.6 steals per contest, and her 12.3 rebounds per game led all classifications in the state of Colorado. She was also selected as Jefferson’s defensive MVP last year.
“Janette is a really quick, athletic point guard who has a chance to be an outstanding player for us,” Abrahamson-Henderson said. “She will have a year to play with Tahnee and learn the system and I think that will be huge.”
Abrahamson-Henderson enters her fifth season as the head coach at Missouri State having compiled an 88-40 overall record, with the 2005 WNIT championship, two regular-season conference titles, three State Farm MVC Tournament championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances to her credit.
The Lady Bears kick off the 2006-07 regular season Saturday, Nov. 11, when they meet Iowa in the opening round of the WBCA Preseason Classic at Kansas City’s Municipal Auditorium. Game time for the Lady Bears’ season opener is 4:30 p.m., with consolation and championship rounds slated for Sunday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively.
