Hammons Student Center continually serves the recreational needs of enrolled Missouri State students, faculty and staff members as well as the intramural and intercollegiate athletics. Currently is the home to MSU volleyball, swimming and diving, STUNT, and acrobatics & tumbling.
HSC also contains athletics and building administration offices as well as offices for coaches, a lounge area and large varsity locker rooms.
HSC was constructed for $5.5 million and is named for Springfield business executive and Missouri State alumnus John Q. Hammons. Mr. Hammons' gift of $1 million to the university helped finance the operation and maintenance of the building.
HSC was home to Missouri State men's and women's basketball from 1976 through the 2007-08 season.
A new court design was revealed in 2025 in preparation for Missouri State's move to Conference USA.
