Miller Named MVC Newcomer of Week

ST. LOUIS – Missouri State senior guard J.T. Miller (Clinton, N.C.) was named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week the league announced Monday (Jan. 8), honoring the transfer from Howard University for his efforts in the Bears' games against Northern Iowa and Illinois State last week.
 
It is Miller's first MVC honor and Missouri State's first Newcomer of the Week since Alize Johnson won the distinction for the sixth time during his junior season, Feb. 20, 2017.
 
Miller averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last week, while firing at a 57.9 percent clip from the field. In his 99th career game Sunday at Illinois State, he logged his first-ever double-double, racking up 16 points and a career-best 11 boards with two blocks and two steals in a reserve role.
 
Last Thursday, he went 5-for-7 from the field in a 13-point effort off the bench against UNI, a 62-55 win by MSU. Miller snagged six rebounds and a blocked shot in the win.
 
The fifth-year senior who came to MSU for his final season of eligibility, also racked up his 54th and 55th career double-figure scoring games on the week.
 
He and the Bears (13-4, 3-1 MVC) resume Valley play Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they take on Evansville (11-6, 1-3 MVC).
