SPRINGFIELD – Capping off the fall 2017 season, the Missouri State swimming and diving team earned a pair of wins against conference foe Evansville, Friday evening at Hammons Student Center.
 
Missouri State Women
Leading the Missouri State women, senior Sydney Zupan had a notable three victories in four separate events. She claimed the title in the 100 fly (56.55), 100 back (56.72) and 100 free (52.44). The Wildwood, Mo., native finished the night with a second-place showing in the 100 IM event.
 
In the 100 fly, eight swimmers finished in the top-10. Following Zupan, junior Josie Pearson took second in 56.63 seconds while senior Emma Wall finished third overall. The Bear controlled the 100 back, earning the top nine finishes in the event. Sophomore Sarah Allegri took second (58.09) and junior Loretta Stelnicki finished third (59.37) while Madison Brown and Haley Allen finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
Earning her first victory of the night, Pearson claimed the top spot in the 100 breast after finishing the event in 1:07.17. Loretta Stelnicki followed Pearson for a second-place finish and Monica Blake took third overall in 1:09.41. Stelnicki went on to finish third in the 100 free, followed by Pearson and freshman Anna Miller.
 
Pearson's second victory of the night came in the 100 IM, where she was the only swimmer to post a time under one minute. She touched the wall in 59.73 seconds, just .30 seconds before Zupan. Stelnicki took third in the event and Allen and sophomore Sarah Wehrmeister finished fourth and fifth.
 
The Missouri State women had success on the diving boards as well. In a group effort, the MSU divers combined for a win on the 3-meter board while newcomer Ashley Yarbrough took second on the 1-meter board with 234.52 points. Fellow freshman Dayana Popa took third on the 1-meter while Payton Smith finished fifth.
 
Missouri State came out on top of the dual, 86-28.
 
Missouri State Men
Junior All-American Artur Osvath put on an impressive show, taking the 100 fly (48.86), 100 back (50.18) and 100 breast (56.11). Later on, the junior took third in the 100 free before bouncing back to win the 100 IM in 51.26 seconds.
 
Missouri State dominated the 100 fly as Osvath claimed first, Jacob Schultz finished second in 50.19 seconds and Phillip Willett finished third. The Bears went on to take the next 11 spots before finally surrendering the 15^th-place finish to Evansville. Similarly, the Bears won the first 17 finishes in the 100 back. Sophomore Conner Ripp took second in the event while Thomas Heye finished third.
 
In one of the Bears strongest events, Missouri State took the first 10 finishes in the 100 breast. Junior Blair Bish claimed second in the event, followed by Theunissen in third. Sophomore Samuel Senn touched the wall first in the 100 free (46.48) and was followed closely by newcomer Lucas Paloschi – who touched the wall in 46.52 seconds.
 
Newcomer Michael Claunch was successful on the 1-meter board as he brought in the top score of the night with 276.30 points while fellow freshman Connor Cox finished fourth in the event.
 
The Bears finished the evening with the uncommon 100 IM, where the Bears found great success once again. Led by Osvath, MSU took the first 14 finishes with each swimmer touching the wall in under 55.20 seconds. Junior Nicholas Theunissen was the runner-up in the event and was followed by Schultz. The Bears finished the meet with a final score of 91-22.
