Series History

MSU leads Evangel, 3-0, in a cross-town competition that dates back to 1977. The Bears won all three previous games at Hammons Student Center. This is the first meeting between the clubs at JQH Arena.

The Ten Count
  • The Evangel game is the home game guarantee as part of MSU's entry in the 2017 Gulf Coast Showcase. Missouri State is 3-0 all-time against cross-town foe Evangel, although the teams have not played since an 86-39 Bears win at Hammons Student Center on Dec. 12, 1985 -- nearly 32 years ago.
  • Missouri State shot 46.0 percent from the field and 77.8 percent at the foul line to go 2-1 at the Gulf Coast Showcase earlier this week, in Estero, Fla. The Bears had a +9.7 rebound margin with Alize Johnson (Sr., Williamsport, Pa.) averaging 16.0 points and 9.0 rebounds during the event, while J.T. Miller (Sr., Clinton, N.C.) averaged 13.0 points.
  • MSU's J.T. Miller (Sr., Clinton, N.C.) is just one point shy of 1,000 for his career. The fifth-year transfer from Howard University scored 930 points with the Bison before coming to Missouri State this season.
  • Obediah Church (Springfield, Ill.) is now just 7 blocked shots behind Ed Liliensiek (1977-81) for the No. 2 spot on the program's career list. Church is up to 137 career rejections, just 30 behind MSU career leader Danny Moore (1996-99).
  • Friday's game will be the 70th game in the MSU careers of Obediah Church (Jr., Springfield, Ill.) and Jarred Dixon (Jr., Kansas City, Mo.). It will also be the 40th career game for seniors Alize Johnson and Jarrid Rhodes (Palmetto, Fla.).
  • Reggie Scurry (Jr., Atlanta, Ga.) averaging 8.3 points per game over the last four contests.
  • The Bears have forced double-figure turnovers in five of six games, creating 12.8 mishaps per contest from their foes.
  • MSU is averaging 14.2 offensive boards per game with double-figure offensive caroms in every game this year.
  • Ryan Kreklow (Jr., Columbia, Mo.) has converted 19 straight free throws, dating back to Jan. 24, 2017. He is 12-for-12 at the foul line this season.
  • Missouri State matched or out-rebounded 26 of 33 opponents last season and has picked up that same momentum in 2017-18 by winning the battle of the boards in all six games. MSU enters the week with a +8.2 rebound margin.
  • Ryan Kreklow is just 13 3-pointers away from 100 for his career (66 games). He would be the 15th Bear to achieve that milestone.
