MSU Golfers Wrap Fall Season with Victory

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – Missouri State fired a final-round 302 to jump three spots and take the women's team championship here Tuesday in the Little Rock Golf Classic at Diamante Country Club.
Coach Kevin Kane's Bears (301-305-302—908) claimed their second in three years at the Little Rock Classic, edging second-place Central Arkansas (302-299-310—911) by three strokes. UTEP (913) was third, followed by Sam Houston State (914), Houston Baptist (915) and Jacksonville State (916) to round out the top six squads in the 15-team field.
MSU also took top individual honors with senior Verena Gimmy edging Jacksonville State's Valentina Giraldo by one stroke. Gimmy (75-74-71—220) started the day tied for sixth but shot a one-under 71 on the final day to claim her second win of the fall – and third time in her career.
Classmate Stine Pettersen (72-75-77—224) had her best event of the year, tying for fifth-place honors, just four strokes off Gimmy's winning pace. Pettersen shared fifth-place honors with the 36-hole leader, Emma Svensson (73-73-78—224) of UCA.
Juniors Ashley Childers and Rachel Johnson finished tied for 34th in the 81-player field, both finishing with three-round totals of 234. Freshman Bridget Schulte helped the Bears secure Tuesday's championship with her best round of the tournament with a final-day 76. The Francis Howell High product finished in 67th place overall.
